Forest Hill, December 2009

A buddy and I were able to get away Saturday morning and hit some trails at Forest Hill OHV past Auburn. Weather was great and the little blue beast only bucked me off a couple of times.

Turkey Day with the Hastings

We had such a great time with Nate, Liz, Sydney and Holly for Thanksgiving! As expected Liz was a fabulous hostess ... homemade rolls (my mom's recipe which I cannot duplicate for the life of me), homemade chicken noodle soup, homemade pizza -- you get the idea. On the actual day of Thanksgiving we drove out to Mesquite and crashed Nate's extended family's dinner at his great-aunt's ranch. Jared was in heaven because they had tons of dirt road trails for 4-wheeling; Ky and Emmett were in heaven because they got to play with their cousins and lots of other little kids in the dirt; I was in heaven because I got to hang out with my sister and didn't have to do any cooking :) It was so fun. The rest of the week included trips to the park, late night game-playing and talks (I was the proud winner of Wise and Otherwise), a visit to Nate's judge's chambers, and an unexpected early Christmas present on Saturday night: Liz and Nate took us to see The Beatles: Love, Cirque du Soleil. Oh my goodness, it was absolutely amazing!!

The performers in that show are so unbelievably talented. They're flexible, strong, great dancers and the choreography was just incredible. And of course the music was rockin! Thanks so much Liz and Nate, it was the perfect way to end the perfect trip.

Kyser's prayer

At the risk of being sacrilegious, I have decided to post the highlights of Kyser's prayer from this morning:

-Thank you for this day
-Please help Emmett, Mommy and Kyser watch TV
-Please help Emmett, Mommy and Kyser have fun
-And daddy have to go to work

I sure feel validated as a hard-working mother (who has been trying extra hard to limit TV watching). Was he praying for things he wanted to happen today or is this a reflection of what he thinks we do all day? Well, I guess the "have fun" part was cool. Sigh.

And it didn't help that Jared started laughing during the prayer.

Halloween '09

Even with rationing, I'm eating way too much (of my 5 year old's candy)!! Help.

Why I love being pregnant

Why I love being pregnant:
Get to wear clothes commonly mistaken for small tents
My belly has it's own weather system (like the kid's head from So I Married an Ax Murderer)
Waking up at 4:40 am for no apparent reason - and my mind starts going, going, going
Trying to chase/waddle after a 17 month old is increasingly entertaining (to watch)
Coaching soccer is more and more of an adventure. Pretty sure I look like a fool doing jumping jacks. And it was an added bonus when I tripped over the ball and fell the other day ...
After finding out I'm actually pregnant, 2 confirmed cases of people saying, "whew! I just thought you were packing on some weight. It's good to know you've got a baby in there."
Shaving my legs is a blast - wish I could do it every day

Why I really love being pregnant:
Feeling a tiny little guy move around in my belly
Listening to his heartbeat once a month is so amazing
We get to name another boy (any suggestions??)
Falling asleep at 9:00 without a problem
Great excuse for late night trips to Taco Bell
Great excuse to have 2 cinnamon rolls after dinner
Great excuse to have leftover cinnamon rolls for breakfast
I get to have another one of these (see below). I can't wait to hold him!
